The 369K Parent Association would like to welcome you all to the new school year!
As many of us are aware, there are very few opportunities for parents and guardians to meet or to help our children form bonds with each other. Many of us do not even know who else is in our kid’s class rooms. This past summer the PA has been working on some ideas to change that.
Some of these things include:
· Getting a table at this year’s Disability Pride Parade
· A website where parents can connect with us, catch up on school events, and be a resource for parents and children on a vast range of topics
· Working with the 369K’s Parent Coordinator, Sofia Bugdady, on having special virtual meet ups with guest speakers. (Topics include understanding when to apply for guardianship, special needs trust, free resources such as communication devices, and more.) And if you can’t make the virtual meetups, they will be recorded and posted on the PA’s website for anyone to watch.
· Fundraising events
· Book drives
· Possible in person meetups, whether for the holidayst or school movie nights when the weather is warmer.
We want to do all these things for the simple reasons that our children need opportunities to connect with each other outside of the school day, us parents and guardians to talk with one another for support and resources, and for all of us to see our children’s educators more than just being their teachers and paras.
We need YOUR help though!!!
If you want your child to have this type of school community as much as us, then I strongly encourage all of you to join our team. Voice your concerns. Give your solutions. Help us build up a stronger community. By doing this you will be helping your child develop connections and let them know that their education is important to you.
Come join our first PA meeting of the year on September 7th. It will be held promptly after Principal Dalrymple’s 9:00am town hall on the same day.
You can also come meet us in person at the Disability Pride Parade on October Sunday October 2nd. Have your child, yourself, and whomever you wish to bring come and march with the 369K community from Madison Square to Union Square. Parade begins at 10am. If you cannot make the march, meet us at our very own 369K table where we will also be having guest speakers talking about topics such as dental care, vision, and more.
